The Kinfolk are an Acoustic/Folk Rock outfit from in New Braunfels, TX. Born from principal songwriter Daniel Thomas Phipps’ (Guitar / Harmonica / Vocals) humble beginnings as a busker performing on street corners in 2009 they now appear live in a variety of formations that include but are not limited to band members: Caleb Hoffmann (Percussion / Harmonica / Vocals,) Chris Compton (Drums / Percussion / Vocals,) Jimmy Hartmann (Bass / Vocals,) and Jeremy Menking (Lead Guitar.) In 2010 They released a self-titled six song EP that included Daniel and former band mate Jonathan Horstmann (Djembe / Auxiliary Percussion.) The EP highlights their acoustic roots which are held firmly in the soil of songwriting, melody, and rhythm. The Kinfolk are currently recording their sophomore release. A planned 12 track album complete with full band arrangements. Since self releasing and promoting their EP they have been cutting their teeth performing live whenever they are able and have played supporting slots for Austin, TX bands: Fastball and Shinyribs. Daniel has noted being influenced by more traditional songwriters and artists like John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, and Todd Snider. Although, He admits that the songs can stray from traditional notions of folk having also been influenced by artists like Iron & Wine, Why?, and Tom Waits.
